Privacy Policy

This policy covers gaming.tools and the Gaming.Tools game websites that link to it, including Paliapedia. It describes our websites, accounts, community features and advertising. A separate privacy notice applies where a product, such as the Companion application, provides one.

gaming.tools is responsible for the personal data we use to operate these services. You can use the contact above for questions, privacy requests and concerns about personal data in a contribution.

Information we use and why

  • Website requests and security: IP addresses, requested URLs, browser and device information, timestamps and error or security events help us deliver pages, prevent abuse and diagnose failures. Our hosting and security providers also process connection information.
  • Accounts: when you sign in with a supported provider, we use account and provider identifiers, session information and the profile details needed for the feature you use. Linked membership information can establish benefits such as an ad-free entitlement. Your sign-in provider handles its own authentication and any information you give it.
  • Preferences: language, display settings, saved tool or map preferences and privacy choices may be stored in your browser. Clearing browser storage can remove them.
  • Usage measurement: sites using our self-hosted Plausible analytics measure page visits, referring sources, outbound links and broad device or location information to understand how the tools are used. Advertising measurement is described separately below.
  • Messages to us: we use your contact details and the information you provide to answer questions, handle requests and keep a record of their resolution.

Contributions and AI processing

Comments, replies, display names, screenshots and screenshot titles are intended for public display when approved. We associate them with your account, the relevant game and page, dates, edits and votes. Other visitors may copy public content, and search engines may index it. Do not include private contact details, credentials or other sensitive information in a submission.

We use OpenAI's API to assess submitted text, display names, screenshot images, titles and filenames against our contribution rules. Relevant context, such as the game, page, language and parent comment, may accompany the submission. We also use AI to translate comments. Moderation and translation can make mistakes; the original comment remains available alongside translations.

We keep moderation decisions and operational records, including account and content identifiers, content fingerprints, reasons, dates and the policy or model used. These records help diagnose failures, investigate abuse and explain actions. Operational notifications about contributions may be sent to our administration channels on Discord.

Advertising and partner data

We use Nitro, formerly NitroPay, a service of Overwolf, to place advertisements and manage advertising consent on participating sites. Nitro works with multiple advertising partners. Their processing can include cookies and similar device storage, advertising identifiers, IP addresses, approximate location, browser and device details, page URLs, privacy choices and ad impressions or interactions. These support ad delivery, personalization where permitted, measurement and fraud prevention.

The consent interface provides the purposes and vendors available for your site and region. Partners and availability can change; the interface and Nitro's disclosures provide more specific information than a fixed list on this page.

Advertising disclosures of identifiers and activity can count as a sale, sharing or targeted advertising under applicable US privacy laws. On the game website where you saw the advertisement, use the "Do Not Sell" control in the footer to opt out where available. The privacy controls in that site's footer also let you reopen the consent interface where provided. Our Cookie Policy explains browser and site-specific choices.

Our reasons for processing data

Where the GDPR applies, we rely on providing the service you request for account and community features; legitimate interests for site security, abuse prevention, moderation, troubleshooting and proportionate service measurement; consent for non-essential device access and advertising processing that requires it; and legal obligations when we must keep or disclose information. You can withdraw consent without affecting processing that was lawful before withdrawal, and object to processing based on legitimate interests.

Recipients and international processing

Service providers receive data needed for their roles, including Cloudflare for hosting, delivery and security, sign-in and membership providers, OpenAI for AI processing, and Discord for communications. Nitro and advertising partners have their own responsibilities for the advertising data they process. We may also disclose relevant information where legally required or necessary to protect people, rights or the security of the service.

Providers may process information outside your country, including outside the European Economic Area. Applicable transfer arrangements can include adequacy decisions and standard contractual clauses. Contact us for information about the safeguards relevant to your data.

How long information is kept

We retain account information while needed to provide your account and resolve account-related requests. Approved contributions remain available until deleted or removed. Deleting a parent comment also deletes its replies. Screenshot removal includes removal from our image storage and delivery caches, which may require retries. Copies independently saved by others are outside our control.

Deleting public content does not automatically erase moderation, security or deletion records. Their retention depends on the need to resolve technical failures, investigate abuse, handle requests or disputes and meet legal obligations. Contact us to request deletion of personal data in those records. Browser storage lasts until its expiry or removal; advertising storage and provider records follow the periods described in the consent interface and provider notices.

Your privacy rights

Depending on the law that applies, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability or a copy of your personal data, object to processing, and withdraw consent. US residents may also have rights to opt out of sale, sharing or targeted advertising and to appeal a denied privacy request. Send requests or privacy appeals to privacy@gaming.tools, identifying the site and account or content concerned. We may need information to verify your identity or an agent's authority. We will respond within the applicable legal time limit and explain any permitted extension or refusal. Exercising a privacy right will not result in unlawful discrimination.

You can complain to your local data protection authority or the Dutch Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens. You do not need to contact us first to exercise that right.

Children

These are general-audience gaming resources, not services directed at children. Do not submit personal information if you are below the applicable minimum age for a feature without the permission required by law and the relevant service. If you believe a child has provided personal data inappropriately, contact us with the relevant page or account so we can address it.

Updates

We update this notice as the services and data practices change. The date above identifies the current version. When a change requires a new notice or consent, we will provide it as required.
